Grandpa’s Garden

Every summer, I help Grandpa in his garden. He says tomatoes are like people: they need sun, water and a little patience.

This year I planted my own row of beans. I watered them every morning, but nothing happened for a week. I wanted to dig them up to check.

"Wait," Grandpa said. "Good things grow underground before you can see them."

On the tenth day, tiny green loops pushed through the soil. I shouted so loudly that a bird flew off the fence.
