Free English Pronunciation Practice: Say It Aloud

Hear a word, say it into your microphone and get instant feedback. 14 levels, from sight words to advanced vocabulary.

🗣️ Say the word

Pick a level. Hear the word, then press “Say it” and read it aloud. Ten words a round.

🎙️ Speech checking uses your browser’s built-in speech recognition (best in Chrome, Edge and Safari). Depending on the browser, audio may be processed by the browser maker’s service. Pagine does not store recordings. No microphone? Listen, repeat aloud and mark yourself.

About pronunciation practice

Good pronunciation comes from listening closely, then copying the sounds. Start at a comfortable level, listen to each word, say it clearly, and repeat any words that need practice. Levels follow the same word lists as our spelling bee lists, so spelling and speaking reinforce each other.

For longer practice, read whole sentences on the sentences page, or read a book aloud with a grown-up. English learners can also explore the Language Corner.

Frequently asked questions

How does the pronunciation practice work?

Choose a level, press “Hear it” to listen, then “Say it” and read the word aloud. Your browser’s speech recognition checks what it heard. If your browser can’t listen, record yourself and compare, or simply mark yourself.

Which browsers support speech checking?

Speech recognition works in Chrome, Edge and Safari on most computers and phones. Firefox does not support it yet; you can still listen, record and self-check.

Is it accurate?

Speech recognition is good at common words and clear speech, and less reliable with strong background noise or very young voices. Treat it as a helpful practice partner, not a judge.

What are the 14 levels?

Level 1 is sight words; levels 2–13 follow our grade 1–12 spelling lists; level 14 has advanced words for adults. Not sure where to start? Take the speech check.
