How to write a great paragraph

4 simple steps, with an example.

The steps

  1. Topic sentence

Start with one sentence that says what the paragraph is about.

  2. Supporting details

Add two to four sentences with facts, examples or reasons.

  3. Stay on topic

Every sentence should connect to the topic sentence.

  4. Concluding sentence

Wrap up by restating the main idea in new words.

Example: Dogs make wonderful pets. They are loyal and love to play. Many dogs can learn tricks, and some even help people who are blind. For these reasons, a dog can be a true best friend.
