In spring, Ava and Grandpa Joe planted tiny carrot seeds.

Every day Ava watered them, but she saw only dirt.

"Nothing is happening," Ava sighed.

"Be patient," said Grandpa Joe. "Carrots grow under the ground."

In summer, Ava pulled on a green top. Out came a big orange carrot!

They washed it and shared it for lunch.
