Team Captain

When Coach announced that Maya would be captain, the locker room went quiet. Everyone had expected Brianna, the team’s best scorer.

Brianna slammed her locker and didn’t speak to Maya for a week. At practice, she ignored Maya’s calls and passed only to her friends.

Maya considered complaining to Coach. Instead, before the next game, she asked Brianna to lead the warm-up. "You’re the one they watch," she said. "They’ll follow you."

Brianna stared at her, surprised. Then she clapped her hands and called the drills. That afternoon, the team played its best game of the season — and Brianna passed to Maya for the winning goal.

1. Why is Brianna upset?
2. How does Brianna show her anger?
