When night came, Pip hid under a blanket in the attic. “The dark is too dark,” Pip whispered. The other ghosts laughed. “Whoever heard of a ghost who is scared of the dark?”
On Halloween night, a bat called Bo flew in through the window. “Why are you hiding?” asked Bo. Pip explained. Bo smiled. “Bats love the dark! We use our ears to find our way. Come with me.”
Bo led Pip to the window. Outside, the full moon glowed and a hundred jack-o’-lanterns twinkled along the street. “The dark isn’t empty,” said Bo. “It’s full of lights.” Pip floated out into the night — and wasn’t scared at all.
