Virgil

70 BC–19 BC · Ancient Rome · Ancient & classical

Rome’s greatest poet, Virgil wrote the Aeneid, the epic of Aeneas, a Trojan prince who escapes his burning city and journeys to Italy. His earlier Eclogues and Georgics celebrate shepherds, farming and the countryside. Dante later chose him as his guide through the underworld.
