Pip the squirrel wakes up early. The air is cool. The leaves are curly.
“Winter is coming,” Pip says with a grin. “I need some acorns to tuck away in!”
Up the oak tree, quick as can be — one acorn, two acorns, three!
Pip digs a hole beneath the leaves, and hides the acorns where no one sees.
Blue Jay watches from a branch up high. “Pip, I saw!” — and he winks one eye.
“Let’s share,” says Pip, “there’s lots to find. A friend is best when a friend is kind.”
Soon the first snowflakes drift and fall. Pip and Blue Jay have enough for all.
Pip curls up in a cosy nest, full and warm — and ready to rest.
