How it begins
Fransisca Emilia Nguda bisa kéné tetanduran tiangé? Punyanné cenik, donné kuning. Apaké tetanduranné ené usak? "Sumi tulungin ja ngaba baju-bajuné ené," kéto raos imémé. "Ih, entik-entikan makejang, nengil malu, nah!" Aduh, matanainé panes bara. Tiang musti énggal-énggal ngaba baju-bajuné ené…Opening lines quoted from the openly licensed book (CC BY NC 4.0).
Reading together in Balinese
- Read it aloud first, pointing at the pictures; then let your child “read” the pictures back to you.
- Ask open questions: what happened, how did the character feel, what would you do?
- Growing up with two languages? Talk about the story in whichever language feels easiest — the understanding carries over.
